Work on the piazza, the contract for which was awarded after a public bidding process, began on 03/17/2003 and was completed on 12/04/2003. The company to which the paving contract of EUR 738,000 was awarded was Restauro SRL Costruzioni.
The company Buonafede SRL managed the construction of the iron canopy for a cost of EUR 288,000. Installation of new public lighting was performed by ENEL SO.L.E SPA for a cost of EUR 136,000.
On the 14th of December, 2003, the new piazza was inaugurated with a festival that was a symbol of that which the new piazza represents: a meeting place for citizens, one that will play host to music, festivals, and performing arts events. Gravel has given way to stone pavement, lawns, and two stone fountains beside the piazza. The most evident novelty is the addition of an iron canopy, the only vertical construction in the center of the eighteenth-century piazza, which acts as a meeting place and provides shelter from the sun.
Unique illumination gives emphasis to the masting of the canopy, and another row of lights, more diffuse, illuminates the walls of the surrounding buildings. An artistic illumination underscores the villa and the canopy. «
